Wow nice!
Cool!
Thank you so much because im learning chess class this kinda helped!
Excellent
We live in a society where "loser" is a term of abuse, and chess is a highly competitive game.
Hah, Ive lost EVERY game of chess I've ever played...
Thanks
Legend in the chess games
I was taught to resign when a situatjon is hopeless. But honestly, whats the fun in that? I dont see how its improper to resign when its more pleasurable to get a checkmate, and if youre on the losing end maybe you can reflect and learn something.
At 4:45, unless I'm mistaken, It seems that instead of taking the pawn, Qb1 was winning.
Big thank you and also thanks to your student who didn't mind sharing this game. It was very instructive. I love playing as white against the Scandi, usually with great success, but never try to hold on to the pawn if it's not recaptured. I found your video on Bishop + Night chackmate and it earned you a new subscriber!
Reached 2000 and then dropped to 1880 in a single day.. fucking chess
Just get the bishop
Elliot, it is ridiculous how amazing your are as a presenter / instructor! Thank you 🙏🙏
*promosm*
I am not afraid of losing but I get too angry too much to the point that I get heavy breath and my entire body and hands shaking to the point I cant even calm down to analyze my losses because the moment I remember "how I lost that super winning game" and get even more tilted because I remember that loss.
Why didn't the queen just take the bishop? I can't tell what moves would have been played.
What helped for me, is when i blundered to stand up, drink something, and try to say to myself "oke what does NOT suck about my position" mabey im a pawn or 2 down, but i can still activate a dangerous bishop. Silmann is great in teaching this
another way to play this line is f4, very tricky for black, lots of traps, like a line where white wins with Ne6+, winning the Queen or the King.
The most disrespecting thing is to lose to a player rated lower than you
Nice explaination.. thanks sir
This is James and The reason why the engine was 0.7 in white's favor was e4 was positionally crushing for white as the fianchettoed grunfeld Bishop is in Jail and because it was a Grunfeld the D pawn has been traded and the e4 pawn for white is just going to a thorn for the rest of the game. unless black does something overcommitted like f6 which makes Weaknesses that will kill you in an endgame
*E5 Sorry*
'national' grandmaster means of which nation?
Hi! Im the one who saw you at coffea! Or you saw us
At some point? Like 48 percent of the time
Thank you...just watched it after losing a game to a Higher rated player than me in the OTB rated tournament..It was a complete draw but somehow I messed up and he got me in Zugzuwang..I was so devastated before I saw thiss!!! ❤🎉
Interesting, do you think being a good chess player 1700+ means you'd be good at programming?
What an important topic…and excellent guest to explain the big ideas (and the small ideas) that will serve young people well as they transfer “game skills” into “life lessons”. The significance of “downboard chess thinking” when focussing on What…should be done by Who…When, Where, How, and Why just cannot be over emphasized. This is a real pearl of wisdom. Many thanks!
Dr. Peg Dawson was a pleasure to talk to and has a wealth of knowledge to share. Chess is a powerful tool for development and learning these executive skills!
This is another very well thought out topic. Staying in a flexible state (while thinking down board) is an essential combination for shifting gears in life as well as in chess. Bravo Master and guest!
The anxiety comes not only from losing, but the fear that you might not be improving from it. Chess is notorious that practice does not necessarily lead to perfect. You can do the same mistakes again and again and again, even if you perform your analysis each game, because it is easy to forget the lessons when you are under stress. It can and take years, even decades before you finally improve and by then, it's too late in your chess life.
You're helping a lot of people.
Thank you for the feedback!
Thank you
I am not a parent but if I so become I will definitely put my kid in chess. Teaches them to work hard and get much better memorization.
Chess is a very important part to kids' development!
I only play online but sometimes when I lose I'm filled with rage and shame and disgust especially when I see my rating drop down
My GOODNESS Rf5 IS THE TOP ENGINE MOVE HAHAHA
Hello master Neff! I am a student from South Dakota 7 years later, black should go back to d7 instead if Bh5 Nxe5 Nxe5 Qxh5 Nxc4 Qb5+ Qd7 black is down a pawn. Love the traps where even if the opponent plays in a correct manner he is still losing
If black plays Bd7 you just play chess and black says no legal’s mate for you.
Very good and compelete , thanks 🙏
Thanks for this. 0 idea why the comments are weird. This video was uploaded 7 years ago and it’s still raw truth. I won’t give up.
This is a very helpful video interview. In our present world the “attitude” and “skills” needed to look at the big picture (and then look ahead with some downboard thinking) are becoming more and more important in work and personal settings.
Thank you!! Im scared to lose, so every time i lose i just stop playing chess for weeks, but i really want to improve my game, that’s why im thanking you for this video!
I feel so hurt by my lack of ability lol. Such an inferiority complex.
I just lost like 7 games and tanked my rating. thanks for this
Pretty curious, 2500 rated opponent is a grandmaster, can't he convert from a winning position to a win against just a "boy" ?
Superb lesson. Thank you.
Excellent. Best subs provider -> Promo'SM!!!
This program is a perfect example of positive mind set development found in the game of chess. Master Elliott’s “win, lose, and LEARN” approach to playing the game is a life lesson for all of us.
this wasn't just about chess.
What you guys didn't play a blitz game? That would have been interesting and instructive. Was the idea proposed? So many of these skills are what people need to be successful in life and in particular when they become involved in business.
Josh was an accommodating host during my travels to Seattle to present to Amazon and Seattle chess players about how chess and business are related. The trip was a total pleasure. I have to run to teach a chess class but going to listen to the whole podcast when I get back. I have to because he listened to my entire chat with Elliott when I was a guest on the Chess4Life podcast.
